WEAVING KNITTING FELTING FABRIC MANUFACTURE WEAVING KNITTING FELTING

WEAVING (1) DONE BY HAND – HAND LOOM

(2) ON A MACHINE KNOWN AS THE LOOM

WEAVING INVOLVES INTERLACING OF YARNS CROSSING OF YARNS

HOW ARE WOVEN FABRICS DONE ? WEAVING TOGETHER 2 SETS OF YARNS – .WARP YARNS .WEFT YARNS

WARP YARNS ARE PLACED FIRST ON THE LOOM RUN VERTICALLY THROUGH THE FABRIC ARE KNOWN AS THE GRAINLINE OF THE MATERIAL (The grainline is the yarn that is parallel to the fabric)

WEFT YARNS PASS OVER AND UNDER THE WARP YARNS RUN HORIZONTALLY THROUGH THE FABRIC

SELVEDGE At each edge of the fabric, the weft yarn turns around, forming a firm edge known as the selvedge Comes from the word “self-edge”, has narrow borders and does not fray
