Direct Speech Reported Speech Simple present (一般现在时） The boy said,‘I’m scared.’ Simple past （一般过去时） The boy said (that) he was scared。

Direct Speech Reported Speech Present continuous （现在进行时） ‘The thief is running away,’said Mrs Ma. Past continuous （过去进行时） Mrs Ma said (that) the thief was running away.

Direct Speech Reported Speech Present perfect （现在完成时） ‘I've finished my report,’ said Detective Lu. Past perfect （过去完成时） Detective Lu said(that) he had finished his report.
