A genuine passion for the task at hand What is leadership? A genuine passion for the task at hand The result of a number of individual qualities Different people are swayed by different leadership approaches

Three Leadership Styles Technocrat – no-nonsense, detail-oriented approach Has a strong sense of bottom line Spends more time figuring out strategy than people Refuses to compromise Get the job done

Three Leadership Styles Artist – approach using imagination and intuition Sees the “big picture” Shows emotion Invites others to share ideas Originality and creativity are important

Three Leadership Styles Craftsman – Leads with common sense and integrity Well-balanced and trustworthy Values getting the job done without sacrificing people Skilled at decision-making and making everyone feel like a winner

Four Learning Styles Learning style - the way we learn most effectively Style #1: Discussion – lots of dialogue and feedback Face-to-face communication Brainstorming and getting everyone’s opinion is important

Tonight’s Homework Choose a Leader in your life Choose 3 out of 6 Planks of Leadership Apply the plank to your leader – how do they represent the plank? Give concrete examples of their leadership. Present this info to class for a double daily grade. You will be graded on accuracy of the plank to your leader as well as your performance. You will need to bring a photograph of your leader.
