How can we be a ‘light in the darkness’? “A City On A Hill” How can we be a ‘light in the darkness’?

Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV) 14"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

‘The light of the world’ God is the source of illumination Jesus is The Light of the World (Jn. 8:12) Are you in the dark?

Relevant bible texts: Ephesians 5:14 For it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” 2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 2 Corinthians 3:18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. We are transformed by Christ and so become ‘the light of the world’.

What does it mean to be light? “Every outward and visible manifestation of our Christian faith…especially our spoken testimony” (John Stott) “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them… Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise…” (Eph 5:8ff)
