Unit 1: The Sentence A sentence is a group of words that tells a complete thought. It tells who or what, and it tells what happens. Start with a capital letter and ends with a period.

The Predicate of a Sentence Every sentence has 2 parts: SUBJECT AND PREDICATE. Predicate: part of a sentence that tells what the subject does or is. Predicate can be one word or more than one word. Ex: People hurry to the fair. Ex: The clown is funny.

Identify the Predicate. Music floats through the air. A man sells prayer rugs. Jillian laughs. We bought a ticket for a ride. The ride is scary.
