To measure quantities of LIQUIDS in the U. S To measure quantities of LIQUIDS in the U.S. Customary System we use gallons (gal), quarts (qt), pints (pt), cups (c), and ounces (oz). In the metric system we use liters (L) and milliliters (mL).

Gallons are used to measure large amounts. i a n t

Quarts Here is a quart of milk.

Pints Mason and Jelly Jars are about a pint.

Cups

To convert within the US Customary System use the Big G!

How many pints did she need to bring home the same amount of milk? 2.) How many cups are in: ½ a pint _____ ¼ of a gallon (click to see diagram) ¾ of a quart _____ P CC Q P CC

1. ) I have 4 pints of juice. How many ounces do I have. 2 1.) I have 4 pints of juice. How many ounces do I have? 2.) I have 3 cups of milk but I need ½ a gallon. How many more cups do I need? 3.) I had 2 quarts of water for my hike, but I drank 1 ½ pints. How many cups of water do I have left?

Metric System 1 liter (L) = 1,000 milliliters (mL)

Liters a r g We measure large things in liters. e

A Milliliter is about a drop. A drop of water. An eyedropper of medicine.
