The skills you will learn in this tutorial are: Art Deco Clock The skills you will learn in this tutorial are: Drawing Circles. Using the Push Pull Tool. Using the Tape Measure Tool. Off Setting lines producing concentric circles. Grouping objects. Intersecting objects. © ZigZag Education, 2013

Art Deco Clock After you have clicked on the Sketch-Up icon you must first select your template. 2. Select Template and choose Metric Millimeters-3D. We are using this template because we are doing a product design. Therefore, on some versions of SketchUp you will need to select Product Design & Woodwork, Millimetres. Note: It is often necessary to start a new file to use the new template. Go to File then New. © ZigZag Education, 2013

6. The circle will fill the screen and have a Diametre of 24mm. Art Deco Clock 3. To allow tools to be accessible click on View and select the Large Tool Set. As can be seen on the far left. 4. Using the Circle Tool draw a circle with a radius of 12mm. This will be displayed in the bottom right measurements box. 5. The circle shrinks in size. To re-size this so it is visible click on the Zoom Extents Tool, this will fill your screen with the circle. Zoom Extents 6. The circle will fill the screen and have a Diametre of 24mm. © ZigZag Education, 2013

8. The outside line will become blue when it has been selected. Art Deco Clock 7. Using the Offset select the outside of the circle and drag another circle into the existing circle. 8. The outside line will become blue when it has been selected. 9. We need to have a diametre of 21.5mm. This is 1.25mm smaller than the 24mm circle. 10. Two tools which we will now need to use are the: Dimension Tool and the Tape Measure Tool © ZigZag Education, 2013

13. Try not to cross lines as this will produce an asymmetric shape. Art Deco Clock 11. Using the Tape Measure Tool you will need to mark a cross at 27 mm, along the dotted green axis. 12. Use the Line Tool to draw a line from the point to the outside circle at a tangent. 14. Using the Tape Measure Tool you can draw a guide line to show where the next line should meet the circle. 13. Try not to cross lines as this will produce an asymmetric shape. © ZigZag Education, 2013

Art Deco Clock 15. Use the Line Tool to draw a line from the point to the outside circle at a tangent. 16. A guide line can also be drawn in at a point 19mm from the centre of the circle. Click and hold the Tape Measure Tool 17. The Erase Tool. 16. The Line Tool can be used to draw a line along the dashed guide line. Use the Eraser Tool to erase the lines that form the triangle. 17. Using the Select Tool, drag a box around the drawing, highlighting it in blue. We are now ready to copy and paste this. © ZigZag Education, 2013

18. Clip to paste the copied drawing close to the original. Art Deco Clock 18. Using the Copy function on the drop down menu select copy and then Paste. 18. Clip to paste the copied drawing close to the original. 19. With the Erase Tool, delete the internal lines. Erase Tool Push/Pull Tool 20. Using the Push/Pull Tool extrude the base to 1mm. This can be checked in the bottom right dialogue box. © ZigZag Education, 2013

23. Using the Erase Tool delete the outer most curve. Art Deco Clock 21. Select only this drawing and right click on it. We are now going to make this a component, to prevent any accidental changes. Select Make Component. 22. A dialogue box will appear. Call the component Base and click Create. 23. Using the Erase Tool delete the outer most curve. 24. Select the centre circle then right click. Erase this by clicking on the dropdown menu. © ZigZag Education, 2013

Art Deco Clock 25. You can see that the centre of the circle has gone. Now using the Push /Pull Tool extrude it to 7mm. 25. Select the Move/Copy Tool. If you go to the bottom left corner of this component it will automatically Snap to the corner. A text box will appear Endpoint. You will now be able to move this component onto the base. 26. When you move the component it will automatically Snap to the bottom left of the base when you move close to it. Click and it will be located and fixed to the base. © ZigZag Education, 2013

28. Draw a circle with a radius of 2.6mm. Art Deco Clock 27. Using the Tape Measure Tool draw two guide lines between the corners to provide a centre for the LED to go into. 28. Draw a circle with a radius of 2.6mm. The Select Tool 29. Extrude the circle then, using the Select Tool, highlight it. It should be blue and dotty. Right Click. 30. From the drop down menu select the Intersect Faces Tool. Then select the option With Model © ZigZag Education, 2013

Button 31. Again select the cylinder. Right Click and click on Erase Art Deco Clock 31. Again select the cylinder. Right Click and click on Erase 32. You should be able to see through the hole. The remaining circle can be deleted too. Button 33. Draw 3 concentric circles at radii 10.75mm; 9mm and 8mm. 34. Draw a line to the middle ring. © ZigZag Education, 2013

38. Delete the the internal line ready for extruding. Art Deco Clock Protractor Tool 35. Place the protractor in the centre and zero on the line you have drawn. 36. Draw a 45o guide line, by typing 45 into the bottom right tool bar. 37. Draw a line between the middle and inner ring. Erase the middle ring, by right clicking and selecting erase. 38. Delete the the internal line ready for extruding. © ZigZag Education, 2013

39. Extrude the outer ring by 3mm and the inner ring by 1mm. Art Deco Clock 39. Extrude the outer ring by 3mm and the inner ring by 1mm. 39. Now you can try to assemble the LED Light. You will need to select the top and use the Rotate Tool to flip it. Use the Move / Copy Tool then by Inference select the centres of each component and click to place in the top part of the light casing. © ZigZag Education, 2013
