Friends of Killala Cathedral
Who we are A group of people who have a shared vision from across our Christian traditions, from Killala, Mayo, and further afield A not-for-profit company and registered charity A core group and wider membership
The Vision A place of shared pilgrimage To see the cathedral together with the town become a place of historical and spiritual pilgrimage that embraces and celebrates the shared history of both Church of Ireland and Roman Catholic traditions
Our objectives To promote Saint Patrick’s legacy of peace, reconciliation and inclusivity within the Christian heritage of Ireland and the world, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral of Killala in the Town of Killala and County of Mayo as a focal point of this legacy
To ensure that the Cathedral is structurally and functionally sound and able to play its pivotal role as a Patrician foundation as a place of prayer, worship and beauty and of spiritual and cultural renewal within the wider local community and elsewhere.
The establishment of a North Mayo St Patrick’s trail that will link with its equivalent in South Mayo and be associated with the St Patrick’s Trail in Northern Ireland
To seek heritage status for the town of Killala and work together with those bodies who have the preservation, beautification and promotion of the town as their goal
How we will do this Through a step-by-step plan with immediate and longer term objectives Through formal funding and advisory links Through our own fund raising With the help of God
