Why Should We Use VR? Learners become physically engaged in their learning. By adding additional senses, students are more likely to be more involved in the content than just reciting text from a book.

Google Expeditions Google Expeditions enable teachers to bring students on virtual trips to places like museums, underwater, and outer space. Get the Google Expeditions App Google Expeditions for Android Google Expeditions for iOS

Materials Needed 1 Teacher device Android or iOS device Student device(s) Android or iOS device Google Cardboard or Head Mounted Device WiFi

Starting an Expedition Open the Expeditions App on the teacher device. Choose “LEAD” on the App Sign In using your Google account.

Choose an Expedition Scroll through the available Expeditions, or click the Search icon at the top right and type in what you are looking for. Tap the expedition to download and Begin. THEN set up your student devices.

Fold Google Cardboard together and place the device in flap. Set up for Use Fold Google Cardboard together and place the device in flap.

Set up for Use Take a headset and slide out the device tray.

Set up for Use - Cont. Place the device in the tray with the camera facing right. Open the Expeditions app on the student device and select your class.

Setup for Use - Cont. When the “Waiting for Teacher” screen appears, center the line in the tray, and snap it back into the headset.

Using Expeditions. When you select a lesson, it is downloaded to the student device. After the content is downloaded, you will see a checkmark to indicate it is ready. **After you have downloaded content, the teacher device is ready to lead a group through that lesson.

Using Expeditions When the download is complete, click “Play” to start the lesson for your students.

Using Expeditions Use the text to assist you in leading the Expedition. Example questions are provided for each scene and divided into Beginner, Intermediate, & Advanced categories.

Using Expeditions Points of Interest can also be selected. The points will be circled in the scene, and an arrow will guide the students to that point. *NOTE: Smiley Faces will indicate where each student is currently looking.

NearPod VR With Nearpod VR, students can experience the world through virtual field trips to faraway places.

YouVisit VR YouVisit takes students on virtual college tours. Whether it is the cost or the distance of traveling or scheduling the time that is prohibitive, students now can take advantage of this app to visit a college.

Discovery VR Discovery Channel Virtual Reality app for iOS and Android experiences provides an opportunity for students to interact with content in a completely new way!

New York Times VR New York Times are using VR as a way to tell stories and bring news content to life. viewers experience the sights and sounds of places around the world.

VR Lessons by ThingLink VR Lessons by ThingLink is a collection of interactive, 360° image and video journeys on a variety of topics including science, language, and arts. ***iOS app only $4.99

PGSD Classroom VR Set VR Cart 25 Student iPods preloaded with app 1 Teacher iPad preloaded with app 25 Head Mounted Displays (HMD’s) Container for HMD’s ***Teachers must sign PGSD VR Policies and Procedures before they can check out the set.

Final Thoughts on VR While virtual reality is still a work in progress, it presents enormous possibilities to complement classroom and online learning to understand subject materials better and make learning more interactive and fun.
