South East Midlands - Employment by Occupation Type Growth is for occupations with higher skill levels

South East Midlands - challenges for employers, educators and individuals Mismatch of skills needed by employers and those held by both applicants and employees with a trend for higher skill levels An ageing workforce and lack of young people coming into the growth sectors Awareness and preconceived ideas of the opportunities that the sectors offer Employers state young people are “poorly” or “very poorly” prepared for work, a third of employers for 16 year olds, 29% employing 17-18 year olds   There is a lot of CEIAG provision and STEM activity in schools but little evidence of impact or relevance to opportunities of SEMLEP labour market Awareness of education and training pathways and provision
