Area Profile ng homes – est 1976, £21mill t/over c5000 properties c1400 owners Area Profile Population of North Glasgow = 100,000 Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation 2 out of the top 3 79% are workless households and benefit dependent 17% have literacy issues 20% have numeracy issues 38% have a major health condition 52% children live in poverty (S’burn) Area we work in Depressing reading, but not depressing area Proud Bad press? Many challenges – not unique (HA similarities?) 25% have a mental health condition 45% struggle to afford food 39% struggle to afford fuel 94% state they would have difficulty paying rent 19% have a court judgement for debt

Housing and Regeneration 3 strands – physical, economic & social Look at trends – population in the area, age of people in the area. Lifestyle Changes; Work/Career and Leisure Attitudes; Education; Health and Welfare; Living Conditions; Entrepreneurial Spirit House home & Place Community Physical Regen - Housing Bread & butter core business Housing Rents etc, but wider…inc recycling Economic Regen – money in peoples pockets (social enterprise) nation's economy can be highly volatile and is often a function of a variety of factors. In a strong economy, unemployment is low and consumers enjoy increased spending power. In a struggling economy, more people are out of work and consumer confidence dwindles. As confidence decreases, less money goes back into the economy, causing businesses to become less profitable and jobs to disappear. Quantitative findings 100% of participants reported substantial improvements in: Self-confidence Belonging to their community Motivation Ability to make positive choices Feeling able to face challenges Feeling hopeful

Scottish Government’s View Scottish Government recently endorsed associations having a regeneration role in: “making significant and valuable wider contributions to their communities, for example through regeneration, community safety, supporting vulnerable people, and promoting employability skills” Response to ICI Committee from Nicola Sturgeon Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure, Investment and Cities Supported by…WHY HAs?
