Home/School Communication At Summit we encourage and welcome communication from parents. Emails are a great way to keep in touch with us! Last year a committee was formed, with parents, teachers and administrative staff to look at ways to look more specifically at home/school communication: Surveyed parents on what they wanted to address in home/school communication Developed age appropriate daily templates Discussed other forms of communication as we move forward, i.e.: apps, student emails, student notes, etc.

Annual Review Process CPSE/CSE Meetings Letter sent home last week: 2 scheduled meetings per year, with parents CPSE/CSE Meeting, with District and Summit Staff. The purpose of this meeting is to develop and approve a new Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Summit staff strongly encourages parents to attend this meeting as it a mandated meeting. For transitioning students (Preschool to District or Creekside to Adult Services) an additional meeting/s may be required prior to the CPSE/CSE meeting. Parent/Teacher Conference, with Summit Staff - informal meeting with your child’s teacher to discuss progress within the classroom and to share information from a home/school perspective.

Annual Review Process CPSE/CSE Meetings If your child’s CPSE/CSE Meeting is taking place in the Fall, 2017…..the Parent/Teacher Conference will be held in the Spring, 2018 If your child’s CPSE/CSE Meeting is taking place in the Spring, 2018….the Parent/Teacher Conference will be held in the Fall, 2017 Of course…..you may request additional meetings with your child’s teacher, as needed throughout the year.

Allergies Summit is an ‘Allergy Sensitive’ School What does this mean? ‘Allergy Sensitive’ signs throughout the school Training for ALL staff on allergy safety and Epi-pen administration Individual signs both inside and outside the classrooms for students with life-threatening allergies Allergy Alert Labels on case books and lockers

Allergy Field Trip Backpacks Contents Emergency ‘Blue’ Cards (with a RED card for student with known life- threatening allergies) Copy of ‘Anaphylaxis Emergency Plan’ for student /s with allergies Bio bags (RED) for lunches of children who have severe allergies RED plastic table cloth Hand sanitizer Epi – Pen Epi-Pen Training Handout Gloves These are to be carried when you are on a field trip and checked out through the nurses office.

Teacher Benefits Developmentally-referenced curriculum assessment System logic recommends lesson plans and then the teacher individualizes the curriculum based on student need Plans provided for 10 developmental domains Capture real time data on iPad or tablet Produces user-friendly graphs to use for data-based decision making Manage multiple students simultaneously Alerts team to data analysis needs to ensure student progress

Student Benefits Curriculum addressing all domains needed for increased independence. Electronic record tracking progress across all years a student is at Summit. Allows for consistency and continuity across years. Early curriculum focuses on learning to learn skills, the development of communication skills and adaptive skills. Secondary curriculum prepare students for the transition to adulthood.
