* What is Direct Democracy? Public Participation Trial of Somalia Pirates Direct Democracy: Direct democracy, which is also known as participatory democracy, refers to a political system where citizens decide policies by participating directly in politics, whereas in representative democracy, citizens vote representatives who then decides policies.

2. Legislation – Korea Case A law-making contest was held to make citizens participate in legislation improvement. Date : July 16, 2010 Personal opinion : The contest’s purpose was very meaningful. It made participants feel close to the legislation system. Furthermore, I hope these events will occur more to change citizens perception.

International Organization – IMF International Monetary Fund: Citizens Participation Establishment: 1945 Location: Washington, the U.S Goal: Through a stable expansion of World Trade, the contribution at the increasing of employment and income, and production resources development for member countries Major Activity: A stability of a foreign exchange rate, fund provision etc Members: 188 Countries (as for 2011)

AND… IMF: Development Committee Participation in IMF programs has been an option that more and more developing countries have exercised in recent years. AND… In the course of lending, the citizens in developing countries started to, directly, participate on the program.

3. International Organization – A-WEB A-WEB, As a Leader of worldwide democracy Date : March 29, 2012 Personal opinion : Korea incites the ‘Association of World Election Bodies’. It provide education about democratic system for students and citizens in the world.

* What we are expecting… Problems and Possible Solutions to Increase Citizen Participation Personal opinion : To increase citizen participation in governing nations or organizations, they must provide an easier method for citizens to be able to express their opinions. Today, the most prominent solution would be activating more participating programs on the internet.
