Establish the EBP fellowship as an organizational support strategy. Development and Implementation of a Regional Evidence Based Practice Fellowship PURPOSE CONCLUSION The establishment of an EBP Fellowship requires leaders to provide the driving force in creating an organizational culture that encourages staff involvement and EBP adoption and sustainment. Resource allocation, including release time to execute unit-specific EBP changes must be established to assure on-going engagement. In addition, assure key stakeholder and multidisciplinary collaboration are established to help eliminate barriers. Facilitate the adoption of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) in nursing across KPNW to improve patient and nurse related outcomes, as well as organizational related outcomes. KPNW Evidence Based Practice Fellowship Taking Nursing Practice to New Heights PROCESS RESULTS Aligned practice changes with organizational vision, mission, and goals. Engaged key stakeholders and multidisciplinary collaboration. Established an EBP curriculum and EBP mentors with prior EBP experience. Included learner-focused group activities as well as self-directed learning outside the classroom sessions, and structured mentorship throughout the program. Created a venue for Fellows to present their work at a Nursing Conference where 400 Kaiser nurses attended. Program evaluation communicated to key nursing leaders. Immediate benefits include improved EBP knowledge, attitudes and skills as well as improved EBP beliefs. Individual cohort contributions included but not limited to the following: Reduced nuisance alarms by 60% and supply costs by 42% for at least 6 months in the ICU. Produced 3 posters, all of which were accepted and presented at local conferences. Creation of a video for breast feeding moms. Establishment of a method to identify homeless prior to surgery to avoid discharge delays. Use of texting instead of VOCERA for inpatient messaging. Pre-surgical Relaxation and breathing techniques to help reduce anxiety and opioid use. FUTURE PLANS Establish the EBP fellowship as an organizational support strategy.
