Handling claims of discrimination and harassment Training and education Promotion and support of the University efforts towards achieving diversity and inclusion Diversity recruitment ADA Reasonable Accommodation and Religious Accommodation Compliance

Affirmative Action Affirmative action must be taken by covered employers to recruit and advance qualified minorities, women, persons with disabilities, and covered veterans. Affirmative actions include training programs, outreach efforts, and other positive steps. These procedures should be incorporated into the institution’s written personnel policies. Iowa State University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer. Affirmative Action is not preferential hiring. Rather, it represents actions taken to recruit a broad, diverse pool of candidates that is representative of the hiring market for that position.

Equal Opportunity Equal Opportunity is providing the same opportunities to all individuals in hiring, programs, pay, promotions, etc. Equal Opportunity prohibits excluding individuals from activities based on their protected class. Equal Opportunity is applied to both education and work environments

Enhancing Search Committee Diversity, EEO, AA Processes The Office of Equal Opportunity goal is to visit with each faculty and staff search committee to brief them on ensuring sound equal employment opportunity practices throughout the search process and in reviewing the level of underrepresented by minorities or women in the job group to which the searched position falls. If there are affirmative action goals, the Office of EO will work with the search committee to assist them in proactive outreach for applicants from underrepresented groups. These practices can be explored and enhancements made to more effectively recruit excellent diverse faculty and staff.

Office of Equal Opportunity First Year Initiatives OFCCP and EEOC increased focus on recruitment, promotion, and retention Develop a program similar to the Equity Advisors at ISU, or the DAAR program at Cornell University to stress that Equal Opportunity/Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion is all of our responsibility Office of Equal Opportunity website training webinars, PowerPoint, and resources
