Does matter really matter?? My Salt and Water Experiment By Vincent Zacamy

What is matter? Matter is anything that is around you. It is defined as anything that has mass and takes up space. Matter can take up different forms. These forms are: liquid, solid and gas. Matter can have physical or chemical change. Physical change is when you change the way something looks but it is still the same thing. For example, if you melt ice, it changes but it is still water. A physical change is reversible. A chemical change is when you change something into something completely different. An example of this would be if you bake a cake. You mix, flour, eggs a water and bake in oven and it becomes cake. You cant change the cake back to eggs, water and flour. A chemical change is irreversible. The water and salt experiment is an example of a physical change in matter.

I think the water, once mixed with the salt, will stay a blob. Claim I think the water, once mixed with the salt, will stay a blob.

List of Materials for salt and water experiment Medicine Syringe Black Construction Paper

PERFOMINING MY EXPERIMENT I mixed 2 teaspoons of salt with ¼ cup of water. I filled the medicine syringe with the mixture and made three separate droplets on the black construction paper. The water was in the form of a blob. We waited 30 minutes to see what would happen to the water and salt mixture.

Pictures of my experiment This is what the water and salt mixture looked like when I first put it on the black construction paper. Here is another picture of the water and salt mixture when I first put it on the black construction paper. The water looked like little blobs.

PICTURES OF MY EXPERIMENT This is a picture of one of the water salt droplets after 15 minutes. This a picture of the water and salt droplet after 20 minutes. This is a picture of the water and salt mixture after 30 minutes.

DATA TABLE Appearance of Drops Before Evaporation. Appearance of Drops After Evaporation Conclusion We can see the salt in the water. The water has a dome appearance. The water is wet. It moves when I move the black construction paper. The water is all gone. All that is left on the black construction paper is the salt. The water evaporated and left behind the salt. In Conclusion, the water in each droplet evaporated and only the salt stayed. Whether water is alone or with salt, the water will evaporate.

Evidence Therefore my evidence shows that even though the water was mixed with the salt, the water still evaporated leaving only the salt behind. Therefore, my claim was proven wrong. The water does not stay in blob formation. The water complete evaporates. I will restate my claim as: The water, once mixed with the salt will not stay in the form of a blob.
