Welcome to Back-to-School Night Fifth Grade Room 22 Mr. Jovel

About Mr. Jovel Born and raised in Fremont Graduated from Kennedy High School B.A. at UC Santa Cruz. Go Banana Slugs! Teaching credential at San José State University Taught abroad in Guatemala and Spain Intervention teacher at Grimmer Elementary Fourth year teaching at Patterson Elementary I have two dogs, a beautiful wife, and a new baby! Student Expectations Come to class and be on time. Complete assignments on time. Do all your homework and bring it to school with you each day it is assigned. Bring all necessary materials to class. Be an active learner. Respect others.

Prep Schedule Monday- Computer Tuesday- Science Wednesday- P.E. Thursday- P.E. Friday- rotating (Science/Computer)

Curriculum Language Arts: Math: Treasures and Core Ready http://treasures.macmillanmh.com/california/families Math: Math Expressions http://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/ePC/start.do Students are responsible for returning the homework and remembering book each day it is used. Don’t be alarmed if we are not going in order in the book. Homework and remembering pages can be found on my page.

Homework Students are responsible for copying assignments into their planners. Assignments are put into binders/folders or posted online. Students will be instructed to make sure they have everything before they leave. Homework is due the next day unless otherwise directed. Points will be given for completeness and students are highly encourage to ask questions and participate in class. Students will only be recording reading or online minutes. (i.e. spelling city, edpuzzle, lexia, etc.) Google apps Contact me via class dojo or email if your child needs additional support.

Thursday Folder Folders will be sent out each Thursday and are to be returned Friday. Folders may include: Important forms Math homework answer guide (for parents only)

Leadership Notebooks Track academic progress Goals and accomplishments Personalized Updated every week or two for organization Leadership notebooks should stay in classroom

Room 22 Economy Behavior management (economy and class dojo) Fines & Credits will be updated together Class Flea Market Items should be discussed in Home School Connect prior to bringing to class. Guidelines will be sent home.

Field Trips & Volunteers We will be going on several field trips this year: 1st trimester: Math Science Nucleus 11/1/16 (walking) 2nd trimester: Intel Museum 1/23/17 (driving) 3rd trimester: 49ers Museum 4/3/17 (driving) Tech Museum 6/6/17 (driving) One more may be be coming! Required driver Insurance Child seating in cars

Supplies and Donations Please replenish your child’s pencil and paper supply as the year continues. Anything helps! Books, pencils, paper, etc. Thank you again for helping me make this year a great one for our students!

Grading Rubrics will be used in addition to letter grades. I will be weighing my grade book with the following scales: 40%- Test 50%- Classwork, Projects, and Participation 10%- Homework

Class Dojo We will be using class dojo in our classroom this year. Students are able to track their points and parents will be able to message me. If no points are awarded, don’t worry! They are doing fine! Notices/reminders can be sent through class dojo. www.classdojo.com
