Introduction to BlendFlex

What is BlendFlex? Blending Learning is the creation of an integrated instructional approach through the combining of different instructional modalities and methods of instructional delivery including asynchronous and synchronous communication. This approach provides the flexibility and convenience for the students to decide which methods best meets their learning needs and styles during any given time during the semester. Typically in a blended class, the instructor lectures face-to-face to those students wanting to attend class (video conferencing); others students may select to view a recording of the lecture and not attend class (Lecture/Capture), yet another may simply prefer taking the class purely as an online class with limited instructor communication (online class), and others may select the instructional modality that best meets their needs based on the instructional content being presented.  Blended Learning is an anytime, anyplace, and/or any path course offering that meets the need of the student.

Instructional Modalities Hybrid Web Enhanced Online Face to Face Video Conference When you talk about Blended Learning being an integrated instructional approach through the combining of different instructional modalities, then we are talking about the class types that students sign up for. When students register for classes, s/he has the choices to sign up for the following classes: Face-to-face/traditional Class – The students are in the classroom with the teacher Web Enhanced – The student is in the classroom with the teacher but some components of the class are web enabled such as using Blackboard Learning Management System or other instructional web based system. Hybrid – students spends part of the time with the instructor in a face-to-face/traditional setting and part of the time is spent in lab or working on his/her own. Online – students work asynchronously on their own using the Angel Learning Management System with limited contact with the instructor. Video Conferencing – student are located at a remote site campus and spends face-to-face time with the instructor in class using Cisco Telepresence Video conferencing equipment. So what blended learning does is to integrate all these approaches into one class type of instructional modality so the students sign up for one class yet have the flexibility of attending the class from any instructional Blended Learning (BlendFlex)
