Ford Mustang

Essential Question How has the Ford Mustang evolved into one of America’s favorite muscle cars?

When was the Mustang created? There were Mustang Prototypes made in 1962 and 1963, but the first production Mustang was created in 1964. The car was called the Mustang 1964 ½. The Mustangs are manufactured at Ford Motor Company. Lee Iacocca was the man who wanted to create the Mustang. He was vice president and general manager of Ford. He wanted a car that was not longer than fifteen feet, that could fit four people, weigh less than 2500 pounds and have a floor mounted shifter. He also wanted this car to sell for less than $2500.

The Mustang is an American Legend and always will be The Mustang is an American Legend and always will be. The body design of the mustang has inspired other cars like the Pontiac Fiero which came much later than the mustang. Also the 1955 T-Bird developed the four seats because it wasn’t selling very much with the two-seater car.

Carroll Shelby brought us the Shelby Mustangs Carroll Shelby brought us the Shelby Mustangs. He took original Mustangs and turned them into track racers. He modified them with better engines and extra exterior parts. The Shelby Mustangs were designed from 1965-1970 and was revived in 2007-present. The latest Shelby is the 2011 Shelby GT350.

Mustang’s main competitor is the Chevy Camaro Mustang’s main competitor is the Chevy Camaro. They have been rivals ever since Chevy made their first Camaro in 1966. In the past I don’t know what the better car was, but right now the 2011 Mustang has the best fuel economy in its class and more horsepower than the Camaro. Yes!!!

The 2011 Mustang V-6 has 31 miles per gallon and 305 horsepower. The 5 The 2011 Mustang V-6 has 31 miles per gallon and 305 horsepower. The 5.0 liter V-8 has 412 horsepower and 26 miles per gallon.

Mustang Racing The Shelby Terlingua Racing Team races 2007-2009 Shelby’s. the team was put together a long time ago. They were even racing when the first Shelby’s were made; the 1965-1970 models.

Mustangs Over the Years

Fun Facts The Mustang was named after the P-51 fighter plane. The first Mustang that was rolled off the assembly line was sold to an airplane pilot by mistake. 22,000 Mustangs were sold on the first day of its release. The one-millionth Mustang was sold on February 23, 1966. Within two years, one million Mustangs were sold.

Why I Chose the Mustang I chose the Mustang because it is my favorite car and I love muscle cars. Also I wanted to learn more about its history.
