Today in Class | Next Class Workshop our proposals. Create a GANTT chart to include in proposal Create a RDC to include with proposal Submit proposal and chart. Web Standards How to incorporate this analytical framework into our Websolutions projects
Recall last class: Problem Analysis Procedure Read the liaison’s proposal, website, or review first interview notes. Analyze the author’s framing of the problem and brainstorm other possible issues Collect the issues as a set of client “needs”…make a list of these Write research questions that will allow you to gather info, flesh out the list of needs, and begin the design process For each question determine what source or sources of info you’ll need to consult to answer the question
HTML compliance check Usability Sustainability Accessibility Heuristic Evaluation (meets all standards) Scenario-based testing Genre Analysis Workflow analysis Compliance checks using automated tools Scenario-based testing http://validator.w3.org/#validate_by_uri
Research design chart (RDC) data sources methods Who/when? questions Team members, target date Data source interview Question 1 Data source scenario This chart allows you to plan and a discovery effort in a systematic way. Note that it does not ask you to answer the questions…but only to show you expect to arrive at the answers! Data source Question 2
What problems do students have with the current SIS interface? RDC Example data sources methods Who/when? question Joe & Jane; Completed by 4/2 Admissions staff interview What problems do students have with the current SIS interface? Scenario- based user tests of current system Students Whole team 5-10 students tested by 4/15 This could be a usability or accessibility issue…how might the question change?
Make a GANTT chart March April You can assign names to each task too Genre analysis (similar sites) You can assign names to each task too Interviewing Staff Students User testing Progress Report due Current system Note the writing that happens throughout… not as a separate phase Create samples Draft final Report due Web prototype Final Report due
Create you own RDC & GANNT chart Plug the questions into the RDC format we looked at today Use the last two columns of the RDC to make a GANTT chart For your proposals due at the end of class, be prepared to show your RDC and GANTT charts. These charts show us what want to know: what you have accomplished, what work remains, and when it will be completed.
Looking forward | homework Remember to add a link to your team’s proposals to your personal page. Next class we’ll look at web standards. Be looking for interested friends, colleagues, etc. willing to volunteer for your user-test.
