The Michiana Area Council of Governments Traffic Count Program

Where Does MACOG Do Counts? Within Our 4-County Region Elkhart County Kosciusko County Marshall County St. Joseph County Additional Counties Cass County Fulton County La Porte County Pulaski County Starke County

What Type of Counts Do We Do? Axle Counts & Classification Counts 99% + of our counts are classification counts 3,800 + locations on a 3 year cycle 48 hours in duration Within the Monday – Thursday timeframe Turning Movement Counts 12 hours in duration

What Type of Counters Do We Use? Classification Counters Manufactured by TimeMark Inc. We have 200 + counters.

What Type of Counters Do We Use? Turning Movement Counters Manufactured by Jamar Technologies Inc. We have 7 counters.

How Do We Operate? 4, 2-Person Teams Hours of Operation Monday – Thursday 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM All traffic count personnel attend an annual certification course put on by INDOT. Over half of our traffic count personnel have worked at MACOG for 5 + years.

What About Safety? All traffic count vehicles are equipped with a light bar and “Caution” emblem.
