JRA1/Job Submission and Monitoring Moreno Marzolla INFN Sezione di Padova moreno.marzolla@pd.infn.it

Current Status The goal of this task is to analyze (and eventually implement) the JSDL and BES specifications for job submission and management Milestone MJRA1.7 (M6) was about JSDL Upcoming milestone MJRA1.17 (M9) will be about BES Draft specification v26 has been implemented by Unicore and gLite in the context of SC'06 demo Some preliminary discussion related to security requirements for job submission has started Catching up with the constantly evolving BES specification (interacted with UNICORE people to clarify some issues with the current v28 version)

What we wish to deliver by month 12 “Mostly” complete support for BES and JSDL in gLite, UNICORE and Globus Client applications can submit the same job to different systems in the same way

Work Plan The document for MJRA1.17 is in preparation “BES will be evaluated with respect to its adoption in the middleware of the OMII-Europe partners” Proceed with the implementation of BES in CREAM, UNICORE and Globus It was agreed that by M12 we should provide “good enough” prototypes for demonstration Early CREAM-BES and UNICORE-BES are available for testing: http://grid.pd.infn.it/omii/milestones:jra117

Planning We are (almost) here M6 M9 M12 M18 M20 M23 DJRA1.9 DJRA1.10 MJRA1.7 Definition of the required extensions needed to JSDL to satisfy OMII-Europe requirements MJRA1.17 BES will be evaluated with respect to its adoption in the middleware of the OMII-Europe partners MJRA1.8 GridSAM integration into UNICORE: architecture and implementation available MJRA1.9 Implementation of JSDL into OMII-Europe middleware together with the extensions identified MJRA1.10 OMII-Europe supports BES plus required extensions

Work Plan Interaction with other activities JRA3/Security Suitable authentication/authorization solutions should be adopted for secure job submission JRA1/VOMS Possible use of SAML assertions in BES servers? JRA2 GlueSchema is one of the topics which was selected by JRA2 for further investigation during the second year GlueSchema might be useful for expressing requirements in JSDL (at the moment, JSDL uses a limited set of ad-hoc elements)

Conclusions We are moving towards the “hot” area of doing the actual work of implementing those technologies Stay tuned: http://grid.pd.infn.it/omii/

“Hot” topics for tomorrow Which BES? From discussion with Morris Riedel it turned out that UNICORE and CREAM flavours of BES are not interoperable right now CREAM uses v26 (the SC'06 version) UNICORE is using v28 and is expecting that servers it interacts with do conform with the WS- RF specification, which CREAM-BES currently does not How do we test/release/deploy our code? Interaction with SA1/Repository, SA2/QA and SA3/Support is needed
