The Savior’s Profound Influence ~ Lesson 9

What does it mean to be righteous?

Who is righteous? Anyone who is repenting. No matter how bad he has been, if he is repenting, he is a righteous man. There is hope for him. And no matter how good he has been all his life, if he is not repenting he is a wicked man.

Righteousness includes humbly conforming to the will of the Father. Righteousness includes covenanting with the Father to obey His commandments. Righteousness includes receiving the ordinances of salvation. Righteousness includes following the example set by Jesus Christ.

…we offer our testimony of the reality of His matchless life and the infinite virtue of His great atoning sacrifice. None other has had so profound an influence upon all who have lived and will yet live upon the earth.

None other has had so profound an influence upon all who have lived and will yet live upon the earth.

How did He gain or acquire this profound influence over all the human family?

What is it about Jesus Christ that grants Him such influence over all the human family?

President David O. McKay Nearly every temptation that comes to you and me comes in one of those forms. Classify them, and you will find that under one of those three nearly every given temptation that makes you and me spotted, ever so little may be, comes to us as (1) a temptation of the appetite; (2) a yielding to the pride and fashion and vanity of those alienated from the things of God; or (3) a gratifying of the passion, or a desire for the riches of the world, or power among men. (Unspotted from the World, Ensign, Aug. 2009, 27) President David O. McKay 1873 - 1970

President Howard W. Hunter It is important to remember that Jesus was capable of sinning, that he could have succumbed, that the plan of life and salvation could have been foiled, but that he remained true. Had there been no possibility of his yielding to the enticement of Satan, there would have been no real test, no genuine victory in the result. He was perfect and sinless, not because he had to be, but rather because he clearly and determinedly wanted to be. (The Temptations of Christ, Ensign, Nov. 1976, 19). President Howard W. Hunter 1907 - 1995

President Ezra Taft Benson He suffered the pains of all men in Gethsemane so they would not have to suffer if they would repent. He submitted Himself to humiliation and insults from His enemies without complaint or retaliation. And, finally, He endured the flogging and brutal shame of the cross. Only then did He voluntarily submit to death… He was perfectly obedient to our Heavenly Father. (Jesus Christ: Our Savior and Redeemer, Ensign, Nov. 1983) . President Ezra Taft Benson 1889 - 1994

John 4:1-29

?

How have you seen the Savior influence your life or the life of someone you know? What effect did the Savior’s influence have?

What will you commit to do to better recognize the Savior’s influence in your life and allow His influence to change you?

The greatest influence of the Savior occurs as we invite the power of His atoning sacrifice to cleanse us, lift us, and transform us.
