Presentation transcript:

Begin today by making a list of at least three units of measure for length, volume, and weight used in the USA and compare it to the units used in the rest of the world.

Length Volume Weight

Measurements In the USA we are slow to convert to using the international units of measurements. In the USA we use miles, yards, inches, tons, pounds, ounces, gallons, quarts, and ounces. There are many conversions we have to remember. The SI units are based on measurement broken down by factors of ten. This makes conversions much easier to remember.

Accuracy vs. Precision Accuracy is how well the results of a measurement agrees with the real value. Precision is the degree of exactness of a measurement. The tightness or grouping of the data.

All hit target accurate but scattered over the target not precise

All hit the target in a nice tight pattern is precise but far away from bulls eye not accurate

Not accurate nothing near bulls eye not precise large spread of the data

Accurate and precise since all near the bulls eye and tightly grouped

Accuracy vs. Precision Real value is 14. Measured data 18,18.5,19, 18.5. Is it Accurate? Is it Precise?

Accuracy vs. Precision Real value is 14. Measured data results are 20, 8, 12, 16. Is it accurate? Is it precise?

Accuracy vs. Precision Real value is 14. Measured Data is 20,1,3,8. Is it accurate? Is it precise?

Accuracy vs. Precision Real value is 14 Measured data 13, 15, 14.5, 13.5 Is it accurate? Is it precise?

Which is more accurate measuring in increments of inches?
