Articles and Demonstratives Objective: I can identify an article and a demonstrative and use each one correctly.

ARTICLES – What are they? An article is a special kind of adjective. They indicate a noun will follow. There are three (3) articles: a an the

ARTICLES- How to use them The describes one specific item or items. Example: The house was sold to the new family.

ARTICLES- How to use them A and an refer to any one item of a group. Use a before words that begin with a consonant sound. EX. A sports car is fun to drive. Use an before words that begin with a vowel sound. EX. An eager driver with choose an electrifying vehicle.

DEMONSTRATIVES – What are they? Demonstrative adjectives are used to point out something. There are four (4) demonstratives: this that these those

DEMONSTRATIVES – How they are used singular plural near this these far that those

Examples Take this pencil. Sit in that chair. Jane wrote these books. William watched those movies.

Demonstratives as Pronouns Demonstratives can also appear alone as a pronoun. Take this to your parent. Put that in your locker. Those don’t belong here. I enjoy these the most.
