Chapter 12 Lesson 1 Warm-Up In what ways do friends contribute to your life?

Chapter 12 Peer Relationships Peers – people of similar age who share similar interest. Ex. Classmates, Co-workers,

Platonic Friendship – a friendship with a member of the opposite gender in which there is affection but the two people are not considered a couple

Clique – a small circle of friends usually with similar backgrounds Cliques typically form during middle school and continue into high school Why is the term clique often associated with something negative?

Stereotype – an exaggerated and oversimplified belief about an entire group of people. Ex. Firefighter

Statistics/Dating 1. 40 million Americans use online dating services. That's about 40% of the adult American single population. 2. 44% of the adult American population is single. That's over 100 million people. 3. On average, there are 86 single men to every 100 single women in America. So, the odds are slightly in favor of men finding a mate.

Social Networking/Media 4. Profiles with photos get over twice as many responses. According to economists at MIT and the University of Chicago, profiles with photos get over twice as many emails as profiles without them.

5. #1 relationship argument is over money - according to a poll by the University of Denver. 6. 48% of breakups in online relationships occur through email.

Facts About STD 65 million of people living in the US have an STD, out of 315 million, that’s about 20% , breaks down to 1 out of every 5 people. 15 million new STD cases each year 2/3 of all STD's occurs in people 25 yrs of age or younger
