Objectives Participants will be able to describe logging in to their Unit Profile Participants will become familiar with the activity types and activity focus areas on the activity report Participants will enhance their understanding of the process of reporting unit activities on their MRC Unit Profiles.

Why are Unit Activities Important? Shows value of the MRC at the Federal Level Allows the DCVMRC to showcase the MRC Shows impact of local units Showcases the diversity of units Documentation is necessary for continued funding

Why are Unit Activities Important? Shows the value of the MRC at the Local Level Documents the hard work of local units Translates volunteer hours into financial impact Helps units keep record of activities to inform local leaders residents of the importance of the MRC

Why are Unit Activities Important? Strengthens MRC network Users can view other units’ activities May give unit leaders ideas of new possible volunteer opportunities Public can view a unit’s activities

Guidance on Adding Unit Activities Add once per quarter at a minimum Oct-Dec; Jan-Mar; Apr-June; July-Sept Units are encouraged to update every month: Remember activities and details clearly Not overwhelming to add multiple activities at once Be creative when thinking of activities to add Be succinct, but descriptive Activities can be added prior to/after the event

How to Add/Edit an Activity Add an Activity: click the “Add Activity” button Edit an Activity: click on the activity description & it will open in a new window Delete an Activity: click on the red circle to the right of the activity Add Delete Edit

Add an Activity MRC Participants: number of Unit members, including the Coordinator Number of Community Members Served: number reached by the effort Don’t inflate numbers Avoid using population numbers Can be a hard count or an approximation

Add an Activity Estimated Number of Hours: multiply number of volunteers by the number of hours served Unless the Coordinator is volunteering their time, do not include the Coordinator hours

Point of Light Volunteer Calculator Puts an economic value on the time volunteers give to an organization Calculate the economic impact of the activity & insert in the Impact statement

Scenario The town of San Pedro has an estimated population of 12K and every year they hold a County Fair that includes a community walk to raise funds for various charities. 15 MRC volunteers assisted with a community walk staffing the registration table and the first aid station on 11/10/2012. The estimated number of people who registered for the walk was 500.
