Would you know what to do?? You’re on the tennis court and a person suddenly collapses, would you know what to do? You’re at a family gathering and someone starts choking on their food, would you know what to do? You’re at the pool with family and friends and someone pulls a child out of the water, would you know what to do?

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?? If someone stops breathing or their heart stops beating, they can survive for only 4 to 6 minutes before lack of oxygen results in brain damage or death. By doing CPR you can extend that time by artificially circulating oxygen to the brain so that when 911 gets on scene , hopefully there won’t be brain damaged.

Resting Heart Rate The number of times your heart beats in one minute, when you are not active. According to the National Institute of Health, the average resting heart rate: for children 10 years and older, and adults (including seniors) is 60 - 100 beats per minute. for well-trained athletes is 40 - 60 beats per minute Lets check your heart rate…….. 15 seconds x 4 = 60 seconds ex. 18 beats x 4 = 72 beats per minute A person of average fitness level has a resting heart rate of about 72-84 beats per minute.

If your resting heart rate is below 72 beats per minute, do u think it indicates a better fitness level or worse?? BETTER…it means that your heart does not have to work as hard to achieve a high level of fitness.

Cardiac arrest is the abrupt loss of heart function in a person who may or may not have diagnosed heart disease. The time and mode of death are unexpected. It occurs instantly or shortly after symptoms appear.

A heart attack happens when the flow of oxygen-rich blood to a section of heart muscle suddenly becomes blocked and the heart can’t get oxygen. If blood flow isn’t restored quickly, the section of heart muscle begins to die.
