 Transports nutrients and removes waste from the body.  Supplies blood and oxygen to the body.
CPR Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. Introduction The American Heart Association designed Heartsaver CPR in schools course to prepare you to: The American.
Are you at Risk for Heart Disease?. The heart –Pumps ~5 liters of blood every minute –Beats about 10,000 times a day –Pumps blood and oxygen throughout.
Welcome to the world of CPR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
Do Now: Can you use the stethoscope to hear your heart beat? Count how many times it beats a minute. Hold your breath. Does your heart beat? Is there.

Let’s Get Started! 1.Choose 3 muscles of your body you think are important. Some examples are shown to the right. 2.Write what purpose you think they serve.
Circulatory System Notes. Pulmonary Circulation: Lungs, oxygen into blood, carbon dioxide out Systemic Circulation: Moves blood to body (not to heart.
What Does CPR Stand For? Cardio = HEART Pulmonary = LUNGS Resuscitate = REVIVE Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation = Reviving the Heart and Lungs.
Cardiovascular System Mr.Royer. Function of the Cardiovascular system To transport nutrients and gases to different parts of the body.
THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM Your “real” heart  The muscular pump that makes the cardiovascular system work. It is made up of cardiac muscle and provides.
Why is it important? Your body’s cells depend on the blood vessels to bring nutrients & remove wastes.

Here Is Your Heart Let’s Find Out! How Does It Work?
The Human Heart By Salvatore V. Lapadula Facts about the Human Heart Is a muscle Moves 2,000 gallons of blood each day Beats between 60 to 100 times.
Aim: How is blood circulated in the human heart? I. Heart Circulation A. Heart is divided into 2 sides (left and right) 1. Left side contains oxygenated.
 Cardio- means heart  Vascular- means blood vessels  Aka Circulatory System because its job is to circulate blood throughout the body.  Blood carries.
Circulatory System Chapter Circulatory System Transportation system of the body Closed system – blood is contained in vessels within the body Consists.
Cardiovascular System. If your heart… Beats about 70 times per minute, how many times does it beat in a day? 100,800 In a week? 705,600 In a year? 36,792,000.

THE HEART

THE HEART ONE big muscle 4 chambers Top half is ATRIUM Lower Half is Ventricles RIGHT SIDE – Bring Deoxygenated blood back to the LEFT SIDE- Pumps Oxygenated blood out to the body Left Ventricle: Largest Chamber, Works hardest, pumps blood out

Would you know what to do?? You’re on the tennis court and a person suddenly collapses, would you know what to do? You’re at a family gathering and someone starts choking on their food, would you know what to do? You’re at the pool with family and friends and someone pulls a child out of the water, would you know what to do?

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?? If someone stops breathing or their heart stops beating, they can survive for only 4 to 6 minutes before lack of oxygen results in brain damage or death. By doing CPR you can extend that time by artificially circulating oxygen to the brain so that when 911 gets on scene , hopefully there won’t be brain damaged.

Resting Heart Rate The number of times your heart beats in one minute, when you are not active. According to the National Institute of Health, the average resting heart rate: for children 10 years and older, and adults (including seniors) is 60 - 100 beats per minute. for well-trained athletes is 40 - 60 beats per minute Lets check your heart rate…….. 15 seconds x 4 = 60 seconds ex. 18 beats x 4 = 72 beats per minute A person of average fitness level has a resting heart rate of about 72-84 beats per minute.

If your resting heart rate is below 72 beats per minute, do u think it indicates a better fitness level or worse?? BETTER…it means that your heart does not have to work as hard to achieve a high level of fitness.

Cardiac arrest is the abrupt loss of heart function in a person who may or may not have diagnosed heart disease. The time and mode of death are unexpected. It occurs instantly or shortly after symptoms appear.

A heart attack happens when the flow of oxygen-rich blood to a section of heart muscle suddenly becomes blocked and the heart can’t get oxygen. If blood flow isn’t restored quickly, the section of heart muscle begins to die.
