Who can attend LSSC full time? Seniors who have earned 3.5 GPA at LMHS 3.0 GPA at LSSC. All coursework must be taken through LSCC only Courses can’t be taken at your high school, or through FLVS, or LCVS.

WHERE DO YOU GO FROM HERE? After return the application, you will receive a LSSC-X-ID Number. You need to remember this number. You need to activate your LAKEHAWK mail account. Then register to attend SOAR (Orientation—Mandatory for all new students) See FALL/SPRING/SUMMER CHECKLIST FOR MORE INFO.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF SOAR? Review all the DE policies. Learn how to register or drop classes. Campus walk tour Receive a DE student information packet *counselors won’t be able to help you with registration for classes, so pay attention to the orientation.

After Orientation You need to register for the classes that you want to take. You ARE NOT required to take two classes this Summer/FALL/SPRING/. You can take 1 course if you want to. Once you register for class (es), you need to print a copy of your course selection and bring it to your counselor for approval. Don’t wait the last minute to email your counselor. During Summer, your counselor might be on vacation but a counselor will be on campus (limited days) to help everyone.

After Orientation Once counselor has approved your classes, then you will receive an email from the college to pick up your books in Howey. You won’t need to attend orientation every semester, but you will need approval from your counselor every time you register for classes.

Course Load Lake county pays for your classes and books. Counselors have a list of approved classes that you can select from. Lake Sumter offers many other classes which you won’t be able to take. If you register for the wrong class, your counselor will ask you to go back and select an appropriate course. Counselors will also warn you of classes which you should stay away from. If you choose to ignore our warnings, then we will ask you sign a waiver.

Course Load The college has deadline to drop or add classes, so read your LSSC emails so you can keep up with the dates. If you drop after the deadline, you will be automatically dropped from DE. If you earn Fs at the college, you will be automatically dropped from DE. Earning Ds will cause your GPA to drop at school and at the college.

Counselor Approval Approval online must be done by a counselor. Deadline to submit the Summer application is April 24th. First day of class for Summer B is June 26th. Once you complete SOAR and receive your counselor approval: You can register starting March 27th. If you don’t contact your counselor for approval, your classes will be dropped.

After Course Approval, now what? You will receive an email when your books are ready for pick up, so check your Lake Sumter emails. Books will need to be returned back to the DE coordinator in Howey. You do this process every semester.

How will DE schedule will impact your schedule at LMHS? For Fall, you need to register for classes morning or afternoon (after 5th period) For new students, Spring registration is more difficult to schedule because counselors might not be able to drop classes from your current schedule, so you might need to do classes after school.

How is DE schedule will impact your schedule at LMHS? You will have more flexibility during summer and Fall. Your counselor won’t approve your classes if you register for classes in the middle of the day (during 3rd-5th period. In Fall, you need to come by Guidance Office to pick up a sticker for your ID/DE Decal for your car.

Dual Enrollment VS AP Classes. LSSC CLASSES ARE WORTH 6.0 GPA JUST LIKE AP CLASSES. Both can earn you college credits. You are building your college transcript, more permanent than HS. DE grades will be placed in your permanent College transcript, while AP is only on your High School transcript. Earning C or lower at the college can prevent you from getting accepted to some universities. Some Universities (private or Ivy League) do not accept college credits earned at a community college. While they will accept many AP college credits. Earning 4 or 5 or higher in 1 AP exam can result to 6 college credits. For example, if you pass AP Lang with a 4 or 5, you will skip ENC 1101 and 1102. Make sure that you give the college a copy of your AP scores so they can add the credits on your transcript.

Dual Enrollment VS AP Classes. AP= Counselors and parents can view your grades. Not for DE. Counselors receive only the final grades. AP teachers can call your parents to inform them that you are doing poorly. Not DE, not much contact between parents and teachers. DE=will be treated as an adult college student not as minor. Counselors support both programs but YOU must be ready to do DE.

Things you need to know. DE requires individuals who are responsible; mature and presents themselves at adults level. Individuals who are successful in the program attend classes regularly, keep up with their assignments, ask for help when needed; procrastinate less; realizing that they are building their college transcripts and DE is not a bragging right to friends. The College and your counselor will treat you as such. The college is closed on Fridays during summer. Pay attention to our website for Guidance Office Summer Hours .
