GIS for Facilities Why GIS for Facilities? Large spatial areas or compounds Geographically spaced out facilities How can Facilities benefit from GIS maps? Map view Identify assets using maps Location services How do I develop a GIS for Facilities? AutoCAD site plans & floor plans Spatial assets identified on maps

Steps to leverage GIS for facilities Utilize AutoCAD files of floor plans and site plans. Convert AutoCAD files to GIS files. Challenge if the AutoCAD files are not polygons. If not polygons, need to modify lines to polygons. Separate large spatial assets into smaller sections based on usage or replacement plans. Add assets that are not on AutoCAD files by using aerial maps or physical mapping of assets using mobile devices to locate coordinates. Collect GIS attributes of assets Connect GIS assets to NEXGEN.
