STUDY ALLOWANCES AND SCHOLARSHIPS Helen Joost 08.09.2017

Needs-Based Study Allowance Can be applied for by a student: who is a citizen of Estonia or resides in Estonia on the basis of a permanent or temporary residence permit; who is not on academic leave; whose period of study has not exceeded the standard period of the study programme; who studies full-time and completes the curriculum’s requirements in 75% or studies full-time in the first semester; whose family’s monthly income per family member is below 394 euros. Amounts of the allowance: 75 €, 135 € or 220 € Submit an application in www.eesti.ee Submission of applications: September-January and February- June Lisaks: who is not on academic leave; whose period of study has not exceeded the standard period of the curriculum; If the state portal lacks the respective details of your family members and their income, you can upload the respective documents to the state portal. Needs-based study allowances are granted twice per academic year: for the autumn and spring semesters. To apply for the allowance, you have to submit an application in the state portal. You can submit the application during the entire semester. In the month of submission of the application, the allowance will be paid seven days after granting the application. Thereafter, the allowance will be paid within the first seven working days of each month. The allowance will be transferred to the student’s bank account indicated in the state portal.

Need-based Special Allowance Can be applied for by a student: whose family’s monthly income per family member is below 394 euros; whose application for needs-based study allowance has been declined because his or her average monthly income exceed the maximum; whose average monthly income of the three months preceding the submission of an application for need-based study allowance of the student and his or her family members has decreased. Amount of the allowance: 135€ Submit an application in ÕIS Submission of applications: September-January and February-June Taotlemise tingimused: who is a citizen of Estonia or resides in Estonia on the basis of a permanent or temporary residence permit who studies full-time and completes the curriculum’s requirements in 75% or studies full-time in the first semester Taotlemine ÕISis: documents –> applications –> special need-based allowance -> apply You can submit the application during the entire semester. When applying for an allowance, a student shall submit the following documents: - A negative decision of the application for a special need-based study allowance, which can be submitted to the University within five working days starting from the date when the decision was announced; - Extracted data from the Estonian Population Register regarding the household members (from needs-based allowance application); - A certificate from the Tax and Customs Board certifying the average monthly income of the three months preceding the submission of a need-based study allowance of the student and his or her family members

Scholarship based on study results is for Bachelor and Master level students with very good academic achievements. The scholarship is given out for one semester (five months). The amount of the scholarship is 100 EUR per month.
