In return for a $20 million payment, Spain gave up the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam to the United States. The state’s were gained, but “not intended for statehood” The war between imperialist and anti-imperialists begins.

Major turning point The Spanish-American War & the Treaty of Paris in 1898 served as a MAJOR turning point in United States history.
