The Foundational tasks in the GEO 2016 Work Programme Concept and lessons learned Giovanni Rum, GEO Secretariat GEO Work Programme Symposium Geneva, 2-4 May 2016

A coordinated set of foundational Tasks Foundational tasks have been defined to implement GEO Core Functions and play a central role in ensuring the basic GEO “platform” is in place by Directly addressing the development of key GEO elements, like GEOSS, User needs, Knowledge base, Communication and outreach, are properly developed in a coherent manner and Properly interfacing and supporting the other GEO activities (Flagships, Initiatives, and Community Activities). They use 100 % of the GEO Trust fund available resources (cash contributions as well as the time of the seconded experts), excluding those earmarked for specific initiatives or Flagships. They also use additional contributions in kind from Members and Participating Organizations, where they are necessary to deliver the planned outcome

Work Programme overall organization This schematic picture establishes functional and temporal links among the different activities and the working interfaces among the different teams so that they properly interact to achieve the identified targets.

Foundational Tasks – Progress since GEO-XII Formation of the task teams almost complete “kick-off” teleconferences were run with the objective of: Validate/update task activities description for 2016 Confirm the “deliverables” for 2016 Confirm the level of the estimated resources and their availability (still to be completed) Define a high level schedule of activities and milestones Identify the needs for interaction with other task teams (not only FTs but also Community Activities and Candidate Initiatives) Collection of additional inputs and contributions.
