How to Take Care of a BOOK! “Larry, the Library Lion” Name ____________________

Hello! Hi! My name is Larry, the Library Lion. I love the library and I love books. We must take good care of our books. Read my book and you will know how to take good care of books too.

Clean Hands, Clean Books! I always have clean hands when I touch a book. Remember to wash off the chocolate before reading!

No Writing, Drawing, or Cutting I love artwork, but I would NEVER write, draw, glue, or cut the pages of a book. When I make art, I use paper.

Use a Bookmark If I do not finish a book, I always mark my place with a bookmark. I NEVER fold the page of a book down!

Turn the Page….. I turn the page using the top corner of the page. This way, I do not rip it. Turning the page too fast or the wrong way can cause it to rip!

Use a BOOKBAG I always remember to bring my backpack or bookbag to carry my books. If it rains, my books will be safe!

Safe Place for Books When I take my books home I keep them in a safe place. That way, no pets or baby sisters can get them.

Return Books on Time When I am finished with my library books I remember to bring them back to the library on time. This is important because other children want to look at them too!

Rules for Library Books Larry, the Library Lion wants us to remember these important rules: 1. Clean hands, clean books. 2. Never write or draw in a library book. 3. Mark your place with a bookmark. 4. Turn the page using the top. 5. Carry your library books in a bag. 6. Keep your library books in a safe place. 7. Return your library books on time.

LINKS This website has games for the student and lots of fun activities for everyone! This is a document that I prepared to go with a lesson.

Purpose The purpose of this powerpoint is to teach my kindergarten and first-grade students the rules about taking care of books.

Goal All students will learn how to correctly take care of a book.

Objectives The students will be able to know the correct ways to take care of a book. The students will be able to fill-in-the-blank when questioned about handling of books.
