IPUMS Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS) Includes 227 years of U.S. census micro data Includes international censuses of 100+ countries Data sources are from the American Community Survey, Current Population Survey, the Demographic and Health Surveys, and the National Health Interview Survey Allows cross tabulations and tables on any data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau

IPUMS LIMIATIONS Difficult to analyze data for cities or towns with populations of 100,000 or less, requires PUMAs. Some IPUMS categories are limited to SPSS, SAS, or STATA data files. Heavy reliance on statistical language. PUMAs are “statistical geographic areas defined for the dissemination of PUMs data…built on census tracts and counties” (U.S. Census Bureau, 2017).
