Primary Topic—The Seaside Summer Term 2 2016 HOOK - Wednesday Trips Out and About to include Beach Schools RATIONALE - We will use our Wednesday trips to stimulate an interest in the Seaside, encompassing history, art, science, PE and geography . We will visit a number of beaches, Osborne House and the lifeboat station . We will look for creatures in rock pools, play beach games and use things we find in art. OUTCOME - Children will gain life experiences and learn about the sea and the creatures that live in it. We will explore caring for the environment and healthy life styles. The Spiritual, Moral, Social, Cultural Curriculum will be entwined throughout the academic subjects. ART and DESIGN *To use things found at the beach creatively to create Art and sculptures using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. GEOGRAPHY *learning about local environments *Ask and answer geographical questions PE *Children will be running, jumping, throwing and catching. *Children will be playing cricket, rounders and tennis. SCIENCE *Learning about a range of plants and animals and their habitats. To think about the moon and tides. *Magnets/Forces—discrete lessons HISTORY *Children will learn about Victorian holidays to the seaside. Maths, Reading, Phonics, Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation and Handwriting will be taught discretely. Writing in Literacy lessons will complement topic when possible. FAMILY HOMEWORK - To visit the beach with your family or friends and bring in anything interesting that you find to share with your class. KEY SKILLS — Working with others, Improving own learning and performance, Communication, ICT, Improving Behaviour, Problem Solving, Application of number, SEAL., Managing Sensory Needs
