Physiology and the human psyche LIGHT POLLUTION Physiology and the human psyche

THE IMPORTANCE OF LIGHT IN THE LIFE OF A MAN Both deficit and excessive light result in negative effects.

CIRCADIAN RHYTHM Disturbance of the natural day-night cycle by extending the day with artificial lighting adversely affects all organisms, including humans.

CIRCADIAN RHYTHM CHANGE Changing the circadian rhythm by continuous exposure to light at night may cause: weight increase - even without changes of physical activity, cancer risk, vision problems while driving a car, hormonal disorders.

Fluorescent light, and in particular the effect of flashing light (eg Fluorescent light, and in particular the effect of flashing light (eg. computers, air conditioning), has a detrimental impact on human health and is a set of factors leading to so called Sick Building Syndrome.

EXCESS OF LIGHT Prolonged work in front of a computer screen is associated with worsening of your eyesight, dimmed light at night also adversely affects the immune system.

IMPACT ON THE EYESIGHT Blue light causes: unpleasant feeling of dryness, stinging eyes, lacrimation, degenerative changes of retina and macula. All the above symptoms lead to visual impairment.

SHORTAGE OF LIGHT SHORTAGE of light HAS A NEGATIVE INFLUENCE ON the human.  Reduced light level forceS the body to produce melatonin, which MAKEs a person sleepy and apathetic.

Therefore, in winter a natural reaction of the body to the lack of sunlight is a noticeable drop in mood. To prevent shortages of light, it is important to skillfully illuminate the premises.

The results of a survey conducted by the UK Ministry of Defence in 1991 on a group of 3,000 people, selected by the London School of Economics showed that 38% of respondents pointed to the bad lighting as the cause of many ailments and discomfort.

A WORD OF ADVICE All studies indicate that our bedroom should be dimmed as much as it is possible. Before bedtime, avoid blue light.
