Spiritual Depravity

Gen 2 – Lies and the fall of man. Gen 4 – Cain murders Abel. Not a new problem The Beginning Gen 2 – Lies and the fall of man. Gen 4 – Cain murders Abel. Gen 6 – Man is consumed with evil. Gen 19 – Carnally corrupted.

Not a new problem 2) The Exodus - Ex 32:6 Idolatry was brought from Egypt. This became the main stumbling block to Israel. This issue was not fixed until post captivity!

Not a new problem 3) Wandering in the wilderness 1 Cor. 10:6-11 - Idolatry - Fornication - Testing God - Murmuring and complaining

Not a new problem 4) Period of captivity Jer. 5:7-9; 6:13-15; Is. 30:8-10; Ez. 16:15 This is the lowest point for Israel in her history!

Not a new problem 5) NT Times Ephesus – Housed goddess Diana. Corinth – Housed goddess Aphrodite. Had a temple housing 1000 prostitutes. Rome – Carnally corrupt emperors.

Not a new problem 6) Current Times Notorious cities/states. Scandals among the elite. Same problems.

Reality Check Eccl 1:9 – “That which hath been is that which shall be; and that which hath been done is that which shall be done: and there is nothing new under the sun.” (ASV)

Why is man so depraved? 2) Effects of the secular mindset. 1 Cor. 1:20-25 – The church had these very challenges. Same influences today – Agnosticism, evolution, secular humanism, etc.

Why is man so depraved? 3) Man does not want to be exposed. Jn. 3:20 – Darkness does not want exposure. Rom. 1:24-27 – Darkness trades truth for error and lies.

Why is man so depraved? 4) Man does not want rules to live by. Deut. 8, 28; Mt. 5-7; 1 Cor. 6:9- 11; Gal. 6:19-21. Rules restrain fun!

What is the answer? Train your children – Prov. 22:6; Eph. 6:4; Prov. 13:24. Preach the gospel – 1 Cor. 1:20-25. Expose error – Eph. 5:7-12. Joyfully accept our place – Deut. 4:39; 6:24.
