Learning awareness week Senior Cycle Presentation

Benefits of this week for you Identifying your learning style should make learning easier Helping to develop skills required for 3rd level. Discovering how to make more efficient and effective use of study time. Target setting gives a focus and is an indicator of how you are doing.

What type of learner are you? We all learn in different ways some of us are visual learners, some auditory and some tactile. Discovering the type of learner you are and how to work your strengths as a learner. To become familiar with what you need to do to be a good learner.

Putting it into Practise Theory Practise Being Prepared to learn – being switched on Setting Goals or targets Engaging in the learning process Evaluating your learning Attitude and equipment Know the Mark you are aiming for, track your progress Be involved in the class Review your work, ask for advice, etc.

Being involved in class Listen Be involved - ask questions offer comments/ don’t always leave it to others Question what you have learned at the end of class and how you can fill any gaps in your knowledge.

Target setting This week teachers will ask you to set targets in individual subjects. Remember a goal is not just the grade you want to achieve in the Leaving Cert. Achieving your target will involve setting short term goals .

For example your short term goal is to write a answer on Paul Durcan in which you achieve a good grade. Your long term goal may be to achieve a H2 in Leaving Cert English.

Target setting Increase your motivation to achieve Allows you to track your progress Give you a grade to aim for Improves your performance in exams
