Notes from Nurse Melissa Happy New Year!!!! The winter cold is coming, along with viruses that can be very contagious. They can infect a person’s lungs and stomach. A good defense is prevention in stopping the spread of these viruses. The Mayo Clinic recommends the following preventive measures: Wash your hands thoroughly. Teach children to wash their hands, especially after using the toilet. It's best to use warm water and soap and to rub hands vigorously for at least 20 seconds, remembering to wash around cuticles, beneath fingernails and in the creases of the hands. Then rinse thoroughly. Carry towelettes or hand sanitizer for times when soap and water aren't available. Use separate personal items around your home. Avoid sharing eating utensils, glasses, drinking straws, and plates. Use separate towels in the bathroom. Keep your distance. Avoid close contact with anyone who has the virus, if possible. Disinfect hard surfaces. If someone in your home has viral infection, disinfect hard surfaces, such as counters, with disinfectant containing bleach. Remember students should be fever (a fever is 100F or greater) free without use of Tylenol or Ibuprofen for 24 hours before returning to school. As well, as no vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school. Students returning to school from absences should have a doctor’s note or a detailed note with a parent signature and the student’s name. Also, teachers are always in need of disinfecting wipes like Lysol or Clorox and Tissues. Any donations will be greatly appreciated. Finally, the clinic is always in need of gently used, dress code appropriate clothes and tennis shoes. Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Items that cannot be used will be donated to local charity. If you have any questions or concerns please call the clinic at 972-429-3408. Thank you for helping keep Akin healthy, Nurse Melissa you have any questions or concerns please call the clinic at 972-429-3408. Thank you for helping keeping Akin healthy, Notes from Nurse Melissa
