The DL & the standards Use of interoperable standard protocols and formats for heterogeneous repositories integration Metadata encoding protocols: DC, DCQ (recommended) MARC, UNIMARC, MARC21, MARCXML, etc. Metadata harvesting protocols: OAI-PMH - Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (recommended) Any API call returning an XML file containing metadata encoded in one of the above mentioned encoding (CDSware, EDMS, FEDORA, etc.) File formats: XML (recommended) RSS The following character encoding is strongly recommended (virtually mandatory): UTF-8 (Unicode Transformation Format-8)
