WHAT MATERIALS WE CAN RECYCLE Aluminum: In one year we throw away enough aluminum cans to make more than 8,000 747 airliners. Paper: We throw away enough office paper each year to build a 12 foot wall from Los Angeles to New York. Plastic: Every year, there is enough discarded plastic to circle the earth 4 times. Glass: Glass can be recycled over and over, unlimited times.

ECONOMIC BENEFITS Save/Earns Money: Reverse Vending Machines Trade in Stores Fewer doctors visits More Tourists Creates Jobs: According to Pace Butler Corporations official web site, incinerating 10,000 tons of waste creates one job; landfilling 10,000 tons of waste creates six jobs; recycling 10,000 tons of waste creates 36 jobs. Save Energy: Every glass bottle recycled saves enough energy to light a 100-watt light bulb for 4 hours.

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS Less Pollution Fewer Landfills Conserves Natural Resources Water Mineral Trees Prevent Global Warming

Metals: Shredded, sorted, cleaned, baled, made into new products. RECYCLING PROCESSES Material Recovery Facility (MRF): Materials are taken to a MRF where the materials are sorted into broad categories (plastics, paper, glass, metals. Paper: Sorting, paper mill, pulper, conical cylinders, de-inking, bleaching. Glass: Organized, cleaned, refilled. Broken glass is melted down to make other materials Plastic: Sorted, washed, ground into small flakes, dried, melted, filtered, formed into pellets, made into other plastic products. Metals: Shredded, sorted, cleaned, baled, made into new products.
