Mardi Gras In Alabama

Mardi Gras takes place in Mobile, Alabama around February.

The first Mardi Gras in North America took place in 1703. A small French colony in Mobile marched through the town with rakes and cowbells.

Now Mardi Gras takes place over a period of several days. During Mardi Gras, many festivals and parades take place. People dress in funny costumes and wear masks.

During the parades, objects are thrown from the floats During the parades, objects are thrown from the floats. Common items that are thrown are beaded necklaces.
