GEOGRAPHY The greatest geographic barrier for Haiti and Cuba in attempting to trade with Central America are the high costs to ship goods overseas to trade .

GEOGRAPHY The Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea are extensions of the Atlantic Ocean.

GEOGRAPHY Many Central Americans have modified their physical environment in order to improve their lifestyles. An Example is peasants burning down the rainforest in order to clear land for farming.

POPULATION DENSITY Jamaica has a high population density because of it is a small island compared to the size of its population. (2.6)

POPULATION DENSITY The population density in Panama is low since the landscape provides little land for the population to inhabit, the low population density is accounted for by the few people who likely are centered around trade and commercial areas with a few other villages.

GOVERNMENT Cuba turned to communism in the 1960s and has been accused of human rights abuse. This is why the United States used sanctions against Cuba since the years of the Cold War through today.

GOVERNMENT Cuba, under Castro, would be considered an unlimited government.

GOVERNMENT Democracy is a limited government In a limited government the government has limited power and there are human rights present. Communism & dictatorship is a unlimited government In a unlimited government the government has unlimited power and can do whatever they want to its citizens and there are not many human rights.

GOVERNMENT When a government moves from limited to unlimited, a loss of human rights is most likely to happen.

GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY Capitalism : private ownership of goods and services Communism : government ownership of goods and services.

CULTURAL TRAITS Haiti still has many characteristics of France since they conquered its people years ago.

CULTURE Mayan cities have been uncovered in the Yucatan Peninsula near Cancun. Mayan villages still exist today near the mountains of northern Guatemala. Through cultural diffusion the Mayan culture spread throughout a large section of Central America.

CULTURE The basic institutions to all cultures are religion, language, and traditions.

CULTURE Central America is defined as a culture region because it has different groups of people, but shared colonial past.

CULTURE Countries in Central America were part of the Era of Exploration when the Spanish came to the New World to search for gold and riches. The effects that were brought by this exploration that we can still see today is………..

Enslaving of the native people by Spanish impact a change in language so that most people of Central America speak Spanish today.

Enslaving of the native people by Spain impacted a change in religion, mostly to Catholicism, which is evident today.

Colonizing of these areas by Spain brought many Europeans to the area who brought other ways of life, including architecture and dress.
