Reasons for Change Freedom to design our curriculum Move towards a more personalised curriculum rather than one size fits all Removal of SATS in English Maths and Science Increased emphasis on GCSE and other L2 qualifications at post 18 Greater emphasis on academic subjects and EBACC

Compulsory subjects in Years 9 English Maths Science Technology History * Geography * Religious Studies ICT Modern Languages PE Learning 4 Life * depending on choices

What will be different? Core subjects start GCSE work in Year 9 Other subjects also start working on GCSE level work and develop skills, but there are no exams taken Technology will allow students a choice of Design area to concentrate on during the summer term (Food, Textiles or Resistant Materials)

What else is different? Previously all students studied 13 subjects in Year 9. We are reducing the total number of subjects. Choose from Arts subjects : 2 from 4 Latin for those wishing to do Latin will study it. Technology ‘elective’ in March for summer term project.

Year 10 and 11 Compulsory subjects English. English Literature Maths Science –3 GCSEs Learning 4 Life PE Most will be expected to also study Ebacc set of subjects.

Ebacc English + English Literature Maths Sciences x 3 French or German, Latin for those having done it inY9 Geography or History. Plus 2 other choices To achieve the “Ebacc “ C grade minimum in all 5 areas. (depending on what is considered a “C” grade.)

Ebacc Government drive to insist all students study a more academic curriculum So for students with Higher attainment from primary it is essential for them to seriously consider the full set of “Ebacc” subjects. All students are encouraged to do so, if they wish to.
