MAGISTRAL PF Technical Department Bedson Africa Updated August 2004

WHAT IS MAGISTRAL PF? Magistral PF is a broad spectrum fumigant – fungicide for the prevention and treatment of more than 120 species of fungi/mold and their spores present in the air and treated surfaces. Its active ingredient is Thiabendazole at 20% concentration.

WHERE TO USE MAGISTRAL PF Magistral PF can be used in the following areas: Incubators, hatcheries and pre-heating areas. Egg collection/storage on breeding farms Silos and all kind of storage facilities Empty trucks and transportation vehicles Green houses for vegetables, tobacco, ornamental flowers, etc.

HOW TO USE MAGISTRAL PF Ignite wick with a match or lighter Once ignited, fine particles are suspended in the smoke and are deposited on ceiling, walls, floors and air ducts within a few hours. Generated smoke should not be inhaled Leave the smoke 8-10 hours (overnight) in the room tightly closed Open all doors and windows and ventilate the room.

ADVANTAGES OF MAGISTRAL PF Wide range of action, specially against Aspergillus species, including: A. fumigatus, A. flavus and A. niger; Fusarium spp, Penicillum spp, and many other. Ready-to-use smoke generator.

ADVANTAGES OF MAGISTRAL PF (cont) Dosage can be adjusted depending on the severity of the fungal infestation. Therefore no waste of product as is the case with similar products. Treatment can be repeated regularly. Silos can be fumigated with a heater and a fan (whilst the grain is inside the silo) by igniting Magistral PF outside so that the product can be “sucked in” into the silo.

ADVANTAGES OF MAGISTRAL PF (cont) Minimizes labour and human error. Active ingredient has low toxicity (LD50 for rat 3,100 mg/kg ingested), so it is safe. Available in 30g candles, 500g and 1 kg packages. Available as smoke generator and liquid application

PRODUCT CALCULATION The following two examples are given as a guideline: Room volume Silo volume

Room volume (in m3) Measure Length, width and height in meters Multiply 3 measurements (in mts) = m3 m3 x dosage required = grams of Magistral PF m3

2. Silo volume (in m3) Volume of silo (in m3) =  x D2 x H 4 Where: = 3.1416 D = diameter H = height m3 x recommended dose = grams of Magistral PF to be used
