APPLICATION PROCEDURES Applying Online Start by checking application deadlines Begin applications with earliest deadline first Apply either through the college website or Common Application website (commonapp.org)
HOW CAN PARENTS HELP? Help your student prioritize their responsibilities Discuss the application deadlines that your student plans to meet in advance Encourage them to be organized Help them to make a plan Hang college application calendar or checklists in a common area (kitchen, etc.) Set weekly times to review their progress/status

Items sent from Cherokee Teacher Recommendations If Required: Ask two teachers in person Use recommendation form for teachers- available in the Counseling Center and on the website Put teacher recommendation request in Naviance Give at least 3 weeks notice Check Naviance or confirm with teacher(s) to see when letters have been uploaded Note - Once uploaded, you will not be able to read teacher recommendations
Teachers Recommendations in Naviance To request a letter of recommendation: In Family Connection, click on the My Colleges tab and then click Letters of Recommendation . On the recommendation request page, click on the blue Add Request button. You have to do one teacher at a time. TWO TEACHERS MAX! Step 1: The student should select a teacher from the drop-down list. If the teacher is missing from the drop- down list, students should contact their counselor. Step 2: Choose “All current and future colleges I add to my Colleges I’m Applying To list.” Step 3: Students can add a personal note (up to 3000 characters) to the teacher, highlighting any important aspects of their applications (such as first choice schools, early decision applications, intended major or degree of study), that they may want the teacher to consider when writing a letter of recommendation. Step 4: Students should click the Save button at the bottom of the screen which returns them to their recommendation status page. At the top of the screen, a green status bar shows the teacher's name and the number of request for the student. From here, you can see the status for all Teacher Recommendations requests that have been made. Check Naviance to see when letters have been changed to “In Progress.” Students will not be able to view/access letters of recommendation.
