Experimental Observation Lab

Drill Looking at the strips of paper on your desk, as a group, sort the strips into 2 different categories – physical and chemical changes Also, take out your note sheet and anything that was signed

Physical or Chemical? Melting an ice cube Dissolving sugar into water Leaves changing in the fall https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0nWmTeQPfo

Physical Changes Crushing a can Melting an ice cube Boiling water Breaking glass Mixing sand and water Dissolving sugar into water Shredding paper Chopping wood

Chemical Changes Rusting of iron Combustion (burning) of wood Cooking an egg Explosion of fireworks Milk going sour Baking a cake Leaves changing in the fall Metabolism of food in the body

Take some time Add any notes you would like to your Notes sheets on Physical/Chemical changes Summarize what the video was about

Agenda Drill Go back to your notes Where are things for labs Writing lab procedure and data tables Perform lab Clean-up Looking Forward

Locate items in room Goggles Aprons Fire extinguisher Fire blanket Safety Shower/Eye Wash The Hood Careful with faucet and gas valves

Procedures- Overview Be specific X number of drops of solution into a test tube Observe and record data into Reactions Data Table All reactions are done in a test tube Don’t forget about the control in your procedure and a control data table!

Lab Safety Wear Goggles!!!!!!  Wear Lab Apron Treat every chemical as toxic (you may touch the metal) Solution 2 is an acid- be cautious If you accidently spill some one you, make sure to rise your hand off with plenty of water and tell Ms. Fair If you spill any chemical or break any glass, please inform Ms. Fair Again, wear goggles!!

After the Lab Take test tubes and dump in waste container Rinse test tubes at lab bench with water Clean your area WASH HANDS!! Erase giant whiteboard and put back Make sure that Ms. Fair took a picture of it Start analysis questions Turn in lab sheet into the bin

Looking Forward Wednesday Friday Separation of Mixtures LAB!! - Wear proper shoes Friday Matter Quiz (will let you know what is on it on Wednesday) Starting Measurement
