The first thing I want you to do is pray  The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living (St Paul’s letter to Timothy)  Therefore, you kings, be wise;     be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear     and celebrate his rule with trembling. (Psalm 2)

At Christmas, our attention is drawn to the birth of a baby some two thousand years ago. It was the humblest of beginnings, and his parents, Joseph and Mary, did not think they were important. Jesus Christ lived obscurely for most of his life, and never travelled far. He was maligned and rejected by many, though he had done no wrong. And yet, billions of people now follow his teaching and find in him the guiding light for their lives. I am one of them because Christ’s example helps me see the value of doing small things with great love, whoever does them and whatever they themselves believe.

Lord Jesus, we pray for Donald Trump as he becomes president Lord Jesus, we pray for Donald Trump as he becomes president. We ask that you would make him a good leader, wise and fair to all in his judgments and leadership. We pray that he would pick good advisors, men and women who will speak truth and wisdom to him even when he does not want to hear them. We pray he would live and work as if he fears you as well as the judgment of his nation. Amen
