Biomedicum – Research without boundaries Karolinska Institutet’s new laboratory for experimental biomedical science

Experimental research under one roof Experimental biomedical researchers from five departments, today scattered across Campus Solna, will 2018 gather in Biomedicum with access to ultra-modern laboratories and shared infrastructure. The aim is to promote interaction and new collaborations. Biomedicum – Research without boundaries 2016-11-09

Rationale for Biomedicum Need of expansion in order to meet the growth of the departments Renewal of old and outdated laboratories Collect groups thematically, to improve integration and collaboration Improve the usage of expensive equipment and core facilities Improve collaboration with Karolinska University Hospital and translational research Coordinate and reinforce our efforts in education Improve our administration by adopting standards and best practice Increase visibility at national and international level Attract new recruitments Strengthen Karolinska Institutet and Sweden as an international leading force in health, medical science and education Biomedicum – Research without boundaries 2016-11-09

Experimental research under one roof Biomedicum offers enormous opportunities for high quality ground breaking research. Biomedicum – Research without boundaries 2016-11-09

Biomedicum – more than a building Vision: ”A catalyst for groundbreaking biomedical science aiming at improving human health” Biomedicum – Research without boundaries 2016-11-09

The vision lays on three pillars “A catalyst for groundbreaking biomedical science aiming at improving human health” Center for world class science Cutting edge facilities and technology Platform for interaction and collaboration Sharing of experiences, ideas and technologies Across scientific borders Rich and dynamic scientific environment Flexible organization Cost-effective administration Vision: “A catalyst for groundbreaking biomedical science aiming at improving human health The vision is based on three pillars: 1. A center for world class science and cutting edge technology aiming at solving fundamental biomedical questions and improving human health 2. A platform that facilitate interactions, collaborations and the sharing of experiences, ideas and technologies across scientific borders 3. A rich and dynamic scientific environment with a flexible organisation and a cost-effective administration Biomedicum – Research without boundaries 2016-11-09

Our goals for Biomedicum To perform groundbreaking science leading to fundamental discoveries and to improved human health To be an inspirational global research landmark, base for international recruitment of both young and senior elite scientists To reinforce and improve clinical translation and interaction both at national and international level To perform groundbreaking science leading to fundamental discoveries and to improved human health To be an inspirational global research landmark, base for international recruitment of both young and senior elite scientists To reinforce and improve clinical translation and interaction both at national and international level To be a reference research center for undergraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral education To translate scientific findings into practical applications and innovations and hence contribute to economic growth To strengthen Karolinska Institutet and Sweden as an international leading force in health, medical education and science To be a reference research center for undergraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral education To translate scientific findings into practical applications and innovations and hence contribute to economic growth To strengthen Karolinska Institutet and Sweden as an international leading force in health, medical education and science Biomedicum – Research without boundaries 2016-11-09
